There was a time in my life that every week I would participate in the Illustration Friday prompts. It was great to have a weekly deadline that forced me to coming up with original ideas and submitting completed pieces. As I recommit to a regular practice of making art, and rejoin the IF community, I have yet to get past the "idea" hump. My process is generally to first come up with a list of associations, then piece them together to get a concept. If that doesn't work, I look for recent news articles on the topic to get more inspiration. This sketch above was last week's prompt, "Juice". This made me think of how juice is now something that is avoided by parents and the health conscious for being too loaded with sugar. Some companies intentionally sold more watered down. To be a "completionist" and not a "perfectionist" (which is now my goal- in life and art) I should have just colored and submitted the pitcher sketch in blue with one drop of orange colored orange juice floating in the pitcher. Instead, I found out that McDonald's is dropping Minute Maid from their Happy Meals and replacing it with Honest Company juice because it is significantly less sweet. Then I got stuck in HOW to represent that, so this idea was never completed and the deadline passed. This sketch above is the idea for this week's prompt, "Time Travel." We shall see if it moves beyond these doodles and notes to myself. Now on to figure out what medium I should use...

The ins and outs of our insurance plan. At the end of a long, hot day, don't have the mental capacity left to try to understand it. Instead, here is a corner of our school auditorium.
Walked to a new spot for today's sketch. Proportions are way off. Got distracted with my phone so there were a lot of starts and stops and got a little lazy and sloppy towards the end.
Unexpectedly nicer weather after a long cool spell. Quick sketches in the sunshine while listening to an audiobook.
Just celebrated a birthday and am determined to make art with more regularity this year. Enter an investment in building my #hobbylife!
Attended a Dabble workshop on Marbling with a friend. First time using these materials. Started with color, then moved on to black and white trio, which I am calling "Smoke." Next stop: bookbinding! Planning on turning these into sketchbook covers. |
